We like it, respect it but don’t quite love it. Naughty Dog appears to be committed to making it easy to learn how to play their multiplayer game without throwing you into the deep end. It’s time to discuss the game’s multiplayer. Uncharted 4 feels plenty full. It makes for a funny contrast to the single-player campaign, which is this big hefty swing at telling a story that feels human and resonates with audiences in an emotional, realistic way. Staff of Ayar Manco – This staff, from the Uncharted: The Fourth Labyrinth novel, casts a magical force across an entire map revealing where the opposing team is located. Any and all of the modes can be incredibly intense. I cannot count the amount of times I frustratingly attempt to climb up a ledge only to be pulled to a different direction for no reason. I think it’s deliberately calibrated to be easier to jump into as a casual or new player; some of the power-ups you get access to–like the mystical artifact that spews angry spirits–allow you to contribute without being great at head shots. The Idol spawns in the middle of the map and can be retrieved by either team. The single player game desperately missed more options for stealth/melee combat. Stephen: The multiplayer feels solid. The rope feels good to whip around in, and lets you achieve a verticality in play that makes the combat way more fun. I’ve got some thoughts about it. Just give me access to everything, and let me figure out what I want to do. Jason: Overwatch costs $60 and right now that has like two modes, so... Patrick: To Jason’s point, I don’t think it matters whether or not it’s “esports.” Uncharted 4 seems geared towards keeping people playing the game and having fun, rather than artificially engineered, as so many other seemingly forced multiplayer modes felt a five years ago.

Anyway... We’ve dabbled with Uncharted 4 multiplayer. A well balanced team that plays off each other will be far more successful than a team of lone wolves. Idols captured earn your team 1 point.
Cintamani Stone – Activating this mystical from Uncharted 2 revives Downed allies within its area of effect instantly. While a site is contested, neither team will earn points from it. Part of the reason is because the advanced mechanics are buried under years of assumed learning. Navigating the Street region is easier if you have teammates to help suppress the enemy, giving you valuable time to move from cover to cover. And yes, the emotes are pretty great (Work it is my fave). Jason Schreier: Nope. Whether you’re going solo in a Deathmatch mode or joining a team to capture loot, you’re going to need Drake-like wits to survive – but don’t worry if you’re not as seasoned as ‘ol Nate. An enemy KO is worth 1 point. Uncharted 4 Multiplayer introduces a number of new systems to elevate gameplay including Sidekicks, Mysticals, a grappling hook, and a deeper weapon list than previous multiplayer modes. However, at higher levels, the Captain is more visible to the enemy: Captain status is lost when the Captain is KO’ed. I mean, he can’t summon AI buddies or mystical artifacts in the main game either! So don’t stay around there too long – use it as a vantage point, then when you need to engage in heated close quarter firefights, duck into the kiosks where there’s plenty of cover. Stephen Totilo: Guys, I’m guessing we’re all on the same page here. You acquire Relics by either completing daily Challenges or winning matches, and you can spend them on DLC Chests. Move through the cover of the cathedral to flank enemies in the ruins or crypt area of the map. A fight to the end with teammates at your side. Stephen: Patrick, I’m thinking the loose controls are helping me out, because, wow, I actually don’t immediately get murdered when I play Uncharted 4 multiplayer, as I do when I casually dip into other multiplayer shooters. Were you looking forward to playing that part of the game? Once you start to unlock more items and gear, a well-tailored custom loadout will outperform the presets. Patrick: Gosh, I wish he could, too. Uncharted 4 tries some deprogramming with the trials, allowing you to get a feel for what you “should” be doing in a multiplayer match, besides running around and shooting.
And Uncharted 4's multi puts the new rope-swinging mechanics to good use, which makes the single player’s traversal gameplay feel like it has a presence in multiplayer. Patrick: Most games presume the single player is a tutorial for the multiplayer, while Uncharted 4 remembers that it’s actually a pretty different game. Uncharted 4 multiplayer modes at launch. Use the rope swings on the edge of the map to sneak around enemy squads and flank them. At higher levels, Captains yield more points. Jason: To one of your earlier points Stephen, I do think there’s kind of a weird and interesting dissonance to the idea that Nathan and a bunch of his friends/frenemies are all just shooting at each other in the jungle for no reason. A Thief's End multiplayer is the online component of Uncharted 4: A Thief's End, and is available to anyone who has purchased the game and is connected to the internet. Because I’m not a huge multiplayer gamer, I don’t have a sense of what’s a good amount of value or content at launch. When called in, the Hunter tracks down enemies and puts them in a choke gold ripe for the KO. A fight to the end with teammates at your side. Use a Wrath of El Dorado Mystical on the first floor of the buildings to get a surprise attack on enemies hiding in the floor above you. Both the Pirate Ship crow's nest and the lighthouse feature long sight lines to the heart of the battlefield, while the grassy areas near the collapsed house offer a temporary reprieve from the action. Captains (once designated) start as Level 1, but after a certain amount of time passes without them being KO’ed they go up in Level. Set up as pseudo competitive matches, you battle against enemy NPC opponents with the goal of getting a high score using specific multiplayer mechanics. The Jungle and Falls areas have long sight lines and good cover, so don’t be sparing in their use. Patrick: I don’t think that’s true, but I do think Uncharted is an easier entry point into multiplayer shooters. “If opportunity doesn’t knock, kick down the damn door.”. Does it seem like enough? Jason: I have absolutely zero interest in continuing to play Uncharted 4's multiplayer (there are so many other multiplayer games to spend time with) but I appreciate that it exists, and that it’s solid enough for the people who will treat it as their One Big Game for the next year and then some. What can be frustrating about the loose controls in Uncharted is that I never feel...in control.
Command sites captured by the enemy team must be neutralized before you can capture them for your team. Use the many maps’ varied side alleys and alternate paths to know when to sneak up and hamstring your opponent’s assault. Team Deathmatch. You can hone your skills with throwables, Sidekicks and Mysticals. And remember, you can save multiple custom loadouts, so feel free to experiment with different styles and equipment.
