Thanks, Cindy! When I watched Blue Jasmine about a third of the way through the film I saw threads of Streetcar and wondered. That Blanchett played Blanche onstage (under the direction of Liv Ullmann) less than five years ago is a mixed blessing. That contrast was the best part of the film to watch. Woody Allen’s Blue Jasmine (2013) can be interpreted as a modern take on A Streetcar Named Desire (1951), updated for the culture and character of a post-Bernie Madoff society.
Sadly I haven’t seen Streetcar Named Desire or Blue Jasmine, but I enjoyed your post and I’m glad I don’t have to pick a winner. (This Is Not a Metaphor.). Blue Jasmine has a similar plot and the point of view from Jasmine is a film showcasing an outstanding talent. The three-part series will premiere in early 2021.
