Not an easy book either.
Bet it makes for rather bleak viewing… Am intrigued how it would work visually as this book is very much about internal goings on. The personal themes of isolation and alienation and the notion of art as transcendence in this novel clearly place Handke in the tradition of modern existential fiction. I enjoyed your review of a book I know well. As the book nears its conclusion, Bloch has a recurring memory that seems to indicate there is an incident that may have been a mitigating factor in the progress of mental decline that plays out in the novel.
