Necessary heavy-handedness was required on some and many of the novelist’s stylistic wordings were overly trimmed. I wished that his jazz riffs from his personal experience were somewhat more improvizational and that he had ventured a bit further in his storyline as often this is a sign of immature talent in a novelist. I can relate to quite a bit of Thomas Wolfe's story of growing up in North Carolina although his a male and born 56 years before me. Since then I have read hundreds of books, but have rarely remembered any of them as well as I remember "Look Homeward Angel." Home is located in the hills of western North Carolina at his mother's boarding house, Dixieland. In many respects, Donald's biography is just as monumental in scope and length as Wolfe's novels.
